I have been in Architecture for nearly 20 years, working out of Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast. I have been lucky enough to gain vast and varied work experience from many different Architectural firms, from small startups to large tier 1 companies. In 2021 I started my own studio as a sole trader Cameron Sheedy ARCHITECTURE.
While my hands on experience has been typical, modern construction, I have been researching bamboo architecture for many years. My University research culminated with my Thesis in 2005, titled; “Is Bamboo an appropriate building material for use in Australian Residential Architecture?”. In 2008 I was a first year design tutor at QUT with a semester dedicated to Bamboo Architecture. Since then I have continued to follow the world wide developments in the material.
I believe that Modern Architecture & Design are the key to unlocking bamboo's potential for widespread use in modern society. Also, while sculptural applications are suitable for some countries, Australia and Queensland specifically require unique climatically & culturally appropriate architecture. If we can unlock the many suitable applications of bamboo into local modern architecture, a huge Queensland market could be created to help transition into a cleaner, more sustainable economy.
We have designed 2 Bamboo projects, which are both unbuilt: Yoga Pavilion in Portugal & Affordable Housing Prototype.
