The BSA is proud to present a series of events pioneering the use of structurally engineered bamboo—laying the foundation for a homegrown industry. These events will highlight bamboo as a sustainable, high-performance material that complements timber and positions Australia at the forefront of green innovation.
Why this matters
There is increasing demand for renewable, high-performance building materials, and engineered bamboo is emerging globally as a viable, sustainable, high-strength solution. Yet Australia – despite our capacity to grow, research, design, and manufacture – has not yet realised its potential in this space. The summit will address that gap and catalyse real industry momentum by bringing together leaders across sectors to inform and shape a 10-year roadmap.
The Opportunity
In the current uncertain times, Australian industry must diversify to adapt and create economic and environmental resilience. Bamboo offers answers to challenges facing our natural resources, construction demands, and carbon goals. But real change requires collaboration – from growers and designers to policymakers and investors.
Summary of events:
Participants are invited to join any of our in-person events. These events, held over three days in June 2025, coincide with world-renowned structural engineer Neil Thomas’ visit to Australia. The events address supply, demand, and policy/investment needs to build a cohesive strategy for Australia’s bamboo plantation industry. A draft 10-year roadmap will be shared at each forum for feedback, informing a final synthesis and post-event report.
The event series is proudly sponsored by ICC Evaluation Service.
